Thanksgiving is usually the main focus for the last half of November. While I did take the week off to celebrate Thanksgiving with Ira, our family, and also finish a few stories before deadlines, I scheduled five book signing events into the other two weeks. All five—Tangerine, In Motion Running, Ramble on Pearl, Boco Life, and Beleza Coffee Bar will be highlighted in this story.
Tangerine Book Signing
Alex Schuler, the owner of Tangerine, a breakfast/lunch restaurant in North Boulder was a wonderful host. He set aside a table in the middle of the restaurant so I could sell books during the late morning and early afternoon rush.
I spoke with an assortment of people who were eager to learn more about 100 Things to Do in Boulder Before You Die. I recently wrote about this restaurant and four others. In Motion Running Book Chat & Signing
What do I have in common with world class athletes who are under 40? Hmmm. Not much, except for a love of Boulder, Colorado. Not only does In Motion Running have an amazing selection of comfortable shoes and outdoor apparel, they also sponsor a running club on Wednesday evenings.
I was honored to speak to this energetic group about my book and my background. They were attentive listeners. At the end of my short presentation, they asked a series of interesting questions. While I signed copies of the book, the rest of the sizable crowd munched on pizza and drank soft drinks. I had a wonderful time.
Ramble on Pearl
Connie and Andi Minden were gracious hosts when I spent a Saturday afternoon at their Pearl Street store. Month ago when I met Connie, I was immediately impressed with her mission to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering them on the job training and affordable housing options.
My book signing at their flagship store on Pearl Street coincided with a store sale. Lovely women’s and men’s clothing are being sold at discounted rates. In between trying on clothing and making gift selections, visitors checked out my book. Several long-time Boulder residents gladly purchased my book, along with some newbies and visitors. It looks like my book appeals to a cross section of people.
BoCo Life on Pearl Street
To kick off the holiday shopping season, I spent the morning before the the CU vs Utah football game to sign books at Boco Life. This store sells an abundance of Boulder and/or Colorado T-shirt, sweatshirts, as well as an assortment of souvenirs. Paula Johansen runs this store, along with family members. If you want to shop at a locally owned store on Pearl Street, check it out. A steady flow of CU fans filtered in and out of the store prior to game time.
Most of these visitors petted Paula’s friendly dog. His favorite spot was the couch right behind my signing table. You can see him in the above image. Every now and then I had to compete for a place to sit.
CU vs Utah
It’s never easy to watch your favorite team lose week after week. We can only hope that the team will have a better season in 2023.
Beleza Coffee Bar
With an 8 AM book signing at Beleza in North Boulder, we left plenty of time to handle the slippery roads heading to Boulder on a snowy late November morning. During our longer than normal drive, I couldn’t help but wonder whether or not it would be worth the effort.
Who goes to a coffee shop on cold, snowy day? Well I was surprised to see that Greg Lefcourt and his partner, Nafisa Ramos have quite a loyal group of customers. Not only were there more people than I anticipated, but they were an extremely gracious group who made me feel welcomed. Even when they weren’t interested in purchasing a copy, most listened politely to my pitch.
At this one event, I sold the most books for the last half of November. What a great way to end the month.
Thanks to everyone who patiently listened to me.
If you have reached this sentence and own a copy of my book, please consider writing a book review. It would be great to hear your feedback.
