A New Beginning: First Blog

Today in Colorado, I am beginning a new blog. Unlike my first blog, www.sandystravel.wordpress.com, which focused exclusively on my Indian adventure, my new entrée into the world of words will discuss numerous topics from various perspectives. This time, I will strive to elicit responses from an open forum instead of a select group of readers. My adventures will be just one focus while I will simultaneously take time to muse about my passions. Each posting will reveal either another facet of my life’s story or a tidbit of information I would like to share.

Sandra-Bornstein in ColoradoUntil my first visit to India in January 2010, I never realized how much I would cower when I found myself living outside my comfort zone. Growing up in Highland Park, Illinois and later raising my family in Northbrook, Illinois and Boulder County Colorado impacted my perspective. I have vivid memories of a childhood spent in a spotless home that had living room furniture encased in protective plastic coverings and a family dog that was prohibited from entering any bedrooms. Even though I am not as obsessed about cleanliness as my mother, I have maintained well kept homes in Illinois and Colorado while still allowing our cat, Chloe, to wander about at will. Needless to say, my suburban upbringing didn’t prepare me for living in a Third World country where cows, goats, chickens, monkeys, wild dogs, and snakes inhabited the city streets and electricity and water resources were unpredictable. Being an expat is a bit more challenging than taking a 10 day vacation.

Fortunately, I did explore India despite my apprehensions. I regret that it took many weeks to recover from culture shock before I started to wander off on my own. Perhaps, my future travels will include another Asian excursion. I’m sure the next time around my viewpoint will be totally different.

Sit back, enjoy, and share my postings with your friends. I can’t wait to read your comments.
