When I first started blogging, I put little emphasis on conforming to a schedule. I merely wrote whenever I had content to share. After a period of time, I realized that a reliable blog schedule would force me to manage my time and simultaneously build my audience. Readers would be more likely to return if they could anticipate reading specific topics on a regular basis.
As my blog has developed, I have implemented a variety of formats. For over a year, I have posted author interviews and book reviews. Most participating authors have offered a chance to win a free copy of one of their books. If you leave a comment on one of those blogs, you have a good chance of being a lucky winner. See below for more information.
In order to maintain this schedule, I have had to rely on many authors and publicists. These individuals have usually responded in a timely manner. Occasionally, there have been small glitches. Responses have either not been returned in a timely manner or not at all. In these instances, I was forced to punt. A couple of times, an author responded early. That interview would conveniently substitute for the planned one. Other times, I wrote a random blog. Sometimes, I let a week pass without a blog posting. It is not always possible to fill in an unexpected gap, especially when I was traveling or my attention was focused on family or personal events.
In the wake of my recent trip, I will be taking a brief hiatus so that I can reestablish a new schedule. I still have a pile of amazing books to review and many authors to introduce. Stay tuned. In the coming weeks, I will return to posting interviews, book reviews, and blogs about my recent trip to the UK, Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands.
