When Mileage Plus seats don’t conform completely to your cruise plans, it may be necessary to stay an additional night. This can be an irritating extra cost. Our son, Aaron, came to the rescue. Last fall, he kindly donated some of his hotel points so that we could indulge in a luxurious stay at the St. Regis, Rome.
“Awesome” was my first response. Not only was the lobby beautifully appointed, the hotel was also conveniently located. When we arrived mid-morning, we were treated to coffee and tea and a plate of cookies. While sipping our drinks, we relaxed for a few moments and planned what we wanted to visit.
Since our room was not ready, we left our possessions behind and went out to tour.
After returning to the hotel, we were escorted to our room. We had been upgraded to an impressive suite. We entered into a formally decorated living room with a glass chandelier.
It was a pleasure to have some breathing room. The sitting room, hallway, bedroom, walk-in closet and oversized bathroom were indeed a treat.
After using a cramped ship bathroom, I was overwhelmed by the spacious bathroom.
The rooms resembled a well appointed small condo rather than a hotel room. To work off all of the excessive calories from the cruise, we used the nearby open staircase with an antique elevator.
We’ve used our hotel points at Hyatt and Hilton hotels, but have never been upgraded to such an extent. In fact, we experienced the opposite treatment during our recent stay at the Midtown New York Hilton. Using our points resulted in having a less than favorable experience. Even though the hotel is being renovated, we were assigned a worn-out room that had not been totally cleaned. Additionally, the cleaning staff left all of the dirty linens, towels, and garbage in the hallway from before our check-in until after we went to bed.
Our room included a complimentary buffet breakfast. The array of food was located in two rooms.
One of our favorite unhealthy items were delicious Italian style doughnuts.
Staying at the St Regis Rome was indeed a treat.
