Life Goes On After Examiner.com

Each day is filled with unpredictable events. Some don’t affect my existence while others make me pause and reflect. I take time to catch my breath, think about my new situation, and then respond.

Robert Frost understood.

He said:

In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.

Individuals cope with many events each day. They choose when and how they will move on. A few weeks ago, I faced an unexpected situation. Today, I’m going to share my experience.

As I started my July 4th weekend, I received an email from Examiner.com. I was advised that the website was shutting down. This Denver based website had been operating for approximately eight years. It was part of AXS.com, an offshoot of Anschutz Entertainment Group. Examiner.com boasted between 10-15 million unique visitors per month. I was hired as an international travel writer last fall. During my tenure, I posted approximately 40 articles with slideshow photos.

In the email, I was advised that I had approximately two weeks to copy my posts. My work would disappear from the internet around July 10.

Poof!

Some unknown person in cyber world would delete all traces of my Examiner.com articles.

I sat in disbelief.

I thought about all of the cool places that I had shared with my Examiner.com and social media audiences. Soon it would be deleted.

Over the holiday weekend, I started copying my articles and photos. Bam! My work was saved. In the coming weeks and months, I will share my Examiner.com travel articles on this site. My articles will not be lost forever.

When I wrote the Examiner.com travel articles, I was asked to follow a certain format and set of rules. This impersonal style is different from this website. Regardless, enjoy my adventures and feel free to ask questions. Ah…it does get a bit lonely when I don’t hear from followers.

Don’t forget that I still write for Fareportal. My travel articles appear on Miles Away CheapOAir Travel Blog and One Travel Going Places Blog. Look to the right hand column of this blog and you can link directly to those articles.

. . . And if you know of anyone who is looking for a travel writer, send them my way. I’m always looking for ways to share my travel adventures and helpful tips.
